the cholderton estate trust

The Cholderton Estate Trust was established in 2018 with the aim of spreading the word about regenerative farming. Ensuring the health of our soil and pollinators means food security; so we conserve and create habitat for wildlife everywhere we can. We look to both the past and the future for guidance; availing ourselves of the most recent research and techniques, whilst remembering our ancestors and how they gently worked with, not against the landscape. Rather than building high walls around our sanctuary, we invite the wider community to engage with, learn from and enjoy it.

The charity welcomes visits from established wildlife organisations and agricultural bodies; hosts regular charitable events such as our Open Garden and Easter Lambing Encounters; and also seasonal pop-ups such as yoga retreats, wreath workshops, Photography and Art Workshops and Outdoor Theatre which encourage the local community to engage with and enjoy the Estate. The Trust also supports an Artist’s Residency, currently held by Sally Newton. Our previous resident Jenny Groom runs quarterly wildlife photography workshops across the Estate.

The Cholderton Estate has been studied as part of DEFRA's test and trial, a research and development programme for the new UK farm policy to replace the EU's Common Agricultural Policy.
